What I'm Reading

I'm still here, just trying to finish up my latest reads.

Right now I'm reading Shiloh Walker's Through the Veil. It's okay, not what I was expecting. The heroine, Lee, is a little boring and a tad preachy. It doesn't help that most of the book is centered around her.

I'm also reading Sharon Shinn's Archangel. The writing is good but the heroine, Rachel, is not my cup of tea. Her attitude sucks and she's downright nasty at times. Had I known that the heroine would be so un enjoyable I would have passed on this book. Now that I have it, I will finish it up and hope that book two in this series has a more likeable heroine.

Funny that I'm reading two books with heroines I don't care for at the same time. When I get fed up with one heroine, I switch to the next book, and then back again when I get tired of that heroine.

  1. I have time just reading the book if it doesn't interest me. I usually just put down and leave it. I had heard so many good things about the book too.

  2. I was thinking of reading Shinn's Archangel but now I'm not so sure anymore. The heroine seems like the sort who will p*** me off. Have you read her Summers At Castle Auburn? It's another one that I'm interested in.

  3. Oh, so interesting you say that about Rachel. A lot of people love this book, but I had similar feelings about her. I started out really liking her, but she went south for me. I'll be interested to see what you think about the ending, but I suspect you will feel as I did on it.

  4. Kimmy, I'm the same way. I have a stack of half-read books, because I just couldn't get in to them.

Jace, she's really working my nerves, but the story is good. I have been on the lookout for Summers. As soon as my local Borders gets it in I will be purchasing it.

CJ, I started out liking Rachel as well. And was amped up about this book, but then she became annoying. I'm still invested in the story, though and look forward to seeing how it ends.

  5. Hi Brie!!

I put down Through A Veil... I just couldn't get in! The most interesting part I read was the glossary ^_^; which gave me a good idea of the world and I was really interested... but the beginning was definitively blah. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one not liking Through the Veil that much.

I hated Rachel... she's the reason I didn't pick up another book in the series... but then I heard she does get better. In case you don't know, Jennie has reviewed the fist three books recently.

  6. Nath, I had to put down Through the Veil, too. After the fourth time I fell asleep with it in my hand, I realized that it just isn't for me.

Now, I'm reading Daughter of the Blood. And loving it.

  9. I'm not going to grade it yet. I'll give it another go before I DNF it.
